A primer for analytical waveforms

About the speaker:
Julio Parra-Martinez is a Permanent Professor at the Institute des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES), near Paris. He works on quantum field theory, scattering amplitudes and effective field theory, with applications ranging from gravitational waves to particle physics. Originally from Spain, he obtained his PhD from UCLA in 2020, and was a Sherman Fairchild Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech from 2020-2023. After a brief stint as an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada, he joined IHES in 2024.

Abstract:
I will describe recent progress in the analytical computation of multipolar waveforms for scattering and quasi-circular orbits. Time permitting, I will explain how this enables the exploration of resummation strategies, which may allow us to extend the reach of post-Newtonian/post-Minkowskian (PN/PM) perturbation theory into the strong-field regime.
